Ross sapote - Canistel

The Ross Sapote is a remarkable tropical fruit tree that delivers a unique eating experience. 

Similar to canistel but with distinctly moister, less mealy flesh, this seedling selection produces fruits that dramatically split open at the crown when fully ripe—like a flower in bloom.

The sweet, caramel-flavoured pulp has a texture reminiscent of hard-boiled egg yolk, earning it the common name Eggfruit. The tree grows slowly and remains manageable in size, making it ideal for home gardens.

Once established, it becomes remarkably drought tolerant, requiring minimal maintenance while rewarding you with an exceptional tropical harvest.
